Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of shodocraft.com and all related services provided by SHODO CRAFT ("we", "us", "our"). By accessing or using our website, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
1. Description of Service
SHODO CRAFT provides:
- An online Japanese calligraphy generator
- A marketplace connecting users with professional Japanese calligraphers for custom handwritten commissions
- A Japanese-English translation service for kanji name creation
2. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the service to:
- Generate hateful, threatening, or violent content
- Infringe upon third-party intellectual property rights
- Scrape or systematically download generated content at scale
- Resell the service itself without written permission
- Use automated tools to abuse the free generation tier
3. Intellectual Property — Generated Content
Free tier
Images downloaded with the SHODO CRAFT watermark are for personal, non-commercial use only. Removing the watermark without a paid license is not permitted.
Pro tier
High-resolution, watermark-free images are licensed for personal and commercial use, including use on merchandise such as T-shirts, tote bags, hoodies, mugs, and similar products. This license is non-exclusive and non-transferable.
Custom orders
Handwritten works created by our calligraphers are delivered as digital files. Commercial use rights are included unless otherwise stated at the time of order.
4. Merchandise & Commercial Use
Pro and custom-order downloads may be used on physical products for sale (print-on-demand, apparel, accessories, etc.) without additional licensing fees. You may not claim the calligraphy as your own original artwork or register it as a trademark without a separate written agreement.
5. Payments & Refunds
Digital downloads (PNG, SVG)
Due to the nature of digital goods, all sales are final. If a file is defective or fails to deliver, we will replace it promptly.
Custom calligrapher orders
You may request a cancellation within 24 hours of placing your order. Once the calligrapher has begun work, cancellations are not accepted. One free revision is included with all custom orders.
Translation services
Refunds are not available once the translation has been delivered. If you are unsatisfied, please contact us and we will work to resolve the issue.
6. Calligrapher Marketplace
Calligraphers who register on SHODO CRAFT agree to:
- Deliver original, hand-drawn work for each order
- Deliver files in PNG (min 300dpi) or SVG within stated delivery time
- Provide up to one free revision per order
- Maintain professional communication with customers
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Translation and kanji name suggestions are provided as creative tools and should be verified independently for formal or official use.
8. Limitation of Liability
Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 30 days preceding the claim.
9. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by the laws of Japan. Disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Tokyo, Japan, unless otherwise required by applicable consumer protection law in your jurisdiction.
10. Changes to These Terms
We will provide notice of significant changes via email or a prominent notice on the website. Continued use constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
